Our Story
How It All Began

Troutman Canine Rescue started with one dog abandoned by his owners and left to die. But after being saved by Joyce Deal, the rescue's founder and director, the dog got a new start in life and has inspired her to do the same for many others.

TCR has saved 350+ dogs over the years, from dozens of shelters or people and some flown in from other countries or states. But some dogs' stories are especially remarkable, and two of those stories are below - Anna's and Buddy's.

Before & After

Buddy was made known to us via a friend and a Facebook post which said there was an injured dog tied to a fence over the winter in Statesville. He was fed by strangers and had no shelter or warmth, despite the freezing weather. Our director went to check out the situation and ended up purchasing the dog from his owner, and you can see him right after being rescued in the photo on the far left. He, now known as Buddy, became a 'foster fail' and now resides with the director and her family, where he's so very loved and living his best life.

Anna came from Thailand, from an organization overseas called Soi Dog, meaning "street dog." They primarily save dogs from the dog meat trade, which is what Anna was saved from before she was flown to America. She now safe and loved by her foster family, who decided to keep her after they fell in love with her. But Anna and Buddy are just two of hundreds of sucess stories of dogs TCR has rescued, and there's sure to be many more in the future.
